Listen up boys and girls. I love to camp, so I've acquired many light-emitting devices during my time. Discouraged at some of the products, I decided to purchase a light meter (DrMeter Digital Illuminance/Light Meter LX1330B). This device pretty much matched and confirmed what my eye measurement assumed. I've listed the items I've purchased below, and taken a picture of all my lanterns that are worth testing, located at [...] Next to the product name is the tested lux (which is the amount of light shined on a given surface area). It doesn't matter how many lumens a product claims. All that matters is how much lux there is. The higher the lux, the brighter things appear to be. For example, if you have a super bright light source rated at 10,000 lumens, but it shines like a ball, it won't be as bright as something that is rated 1,000 lumens and shines in only one direction simply because all the light photons are pointed toward a common direction. I tested all products at the same distance between light source and the light meter. The lux numbers are pointless by themselves. But compared to different products, it gives you a good idea of what's brighter than what.
Solar Lantern Ultimate - 104 lux - I purchased this product from an unknown online company called World Green Products. I'd put the website here, but I'm afraid Amazon is going to just remove it. Simply search Google for "Solar Lantern Ultimate" and the website should match the words "world green products". Unlike typical lanterns that shine 360 degrees, this lantern only shines about slightly less than 180 degrees. In other words, you can point the light source to a direction of your choice, without blinding you in the process. As a result, this light is much brighter than any non-propane lantern I've ever owned. Ever. It is solar powered, and uses a 3 watt solar panel (included with the lantern purchase) to charge a sealed lead acid battery, meaning you don't need to purchase batteries. It charges even when the sun is blocked behind clouds and the solar panel is inside my house, about 1 foot from the sliding door. It can take 12+ hours to charge, but this thing lasts for a minimum of 2 camping nights, depending on use. This product seems super well made. I even dropped it from a 2 feet height once and I saw no signs of damage. Did I say this thing is friggen bright? This is the brightest lantern I've ever seen. Period. It has an AC adapter to charge via a regular wall outlet too.

Easy to carry, powerful light source of 180 degrees. I like the fact that it can be charged by a solar panel, but I don't look forward to the day I will have to use that feature.

I actually found your website through a reviewer on Amazon. He most likely owned various LED lanterns and reviewed one of your company's lantern as the best he's used/owned. All the best.

Our 'get away' cabin has no electricity - great for the soul not so great when lighting needed and the batteries must once again be replaced. We decided to give the Ultimate a try and what a noticeable improvement! The rechargeable batteries work as expected saving trips to the store and having to throw the used ones away. Great investment - high advised purchase!

The rechargeable batteries in this Solar Lantern are more than expected. It takes a while to charge but the power is held for a long time and saves a ton of bucks. Saved buying 4 D's or more each camping weekend plus the disposal - so I guess we are all ahead. Nice concept, easy to use, lot's of light and the USB charged the mobile with no problem. Great lantern.

Illuminated a room okay, but was way short for fishing. Did not shine out in the water very far. A Coleman gas lantern better. This review is from my son as the lantern was purchased for him.
World Green Products Response:
Our Ultimate Solar Lantern produces 1000 lumens on HI whereas the Coleman dual mantle gas lantern produces 800 lumens. Perhaps the water illumination difference is caused by the 180 degree of light vs 360 degree with the Coleman.

A serious lantern that will light any man-cave for hours on end. Light weight and very portable with carry handle, this Led Lantern has the stuff to make it simple to operate and for a long time. The only issue which is why it didn't get 5 stars is the time it takes to solar charge. In a pinch, can be quick charged with the AC Adapter in about half the time. Otherwise - must have lantern for any serious outdoorsman.

Unbelievable lantern puts a whole new meaning on being outdoors!

Tiered of cheap lanterns that either burn out or break quickly? You might want to try this bad boy out! Very bright and will last the entire weekend. Just a superior piece of equipment that completes the outdoor experience.

First solar powered product I bought - I will buy more.
Great lantern, bright long lasting light, light weight, weatherproof, usb port and cheap to operate. I normally would have burned thru 4 Dcells on a weekend. Not counting the time and gas, that's $8, so in 3 mos would have paid for the lantern - WOW. Thanks WGP - you shipped on time with a great product and have changed my mind on Solar.
